Man arrested in Ambaniala Itaosy for Facebook scam operations
After a long investigation, authorities have finally made an arrest. Yesterday, a man was apprehended in the Ambaniala Itaosy area along with multiple fake accounts he operated. The accounts, bearing names such as Romeo HR, Idealy HR, Tahina Rakoto, Feno soa, Manda Fy, Tania Nathalie, Frère Gideona, and Frere Gideona, had defrauded numerous people on social media. The scam network extended across Ambohimandroso, Ankazobe, Toamasina, and Fianarantsoa, regions where items were advertised at prices significantly below market value. Whether cars, motorcycles, houses, or other goods, the suspect would post photos of items belonging to others and use multiple accounts to conduct the fraud. When potential buyers contacted him, he would claim the items were in those regions and request transfer fees or shipping costs to deliver the goods. Once payment was received, communication would cease and the buyer could no longer reach him. According to police, the suspect would block or blacklist customers who complained. When victims tried to contact him, he would threaten them and use their photos and names to conduct further scams. The suspect managed to evade capture for some time, but after extensive investigation and evidence gathering by authorities, he was identified as residing in the Bemasoandro commune. Once all leads were traced, he was found in Sahalemaka, a fokontany in Ambaniala, at his residence. All necessary procedures were completed and the arrest was made. Police estimate the suspect has defrauded numerous victims across various regions. Authorities are calling on all victims to come forward to assist in the investigation and prosecution. The case is being handled by the Itaosy police station and will be referred to the Public Prosecutor's office.
