Citizens wearing traditional Malagasy clothing during the celebration of Madagascar's 66th Independence Anniversary in June. The Council of Ministers, published on July 17, has approved the establishment of wearing "Malagasy attire" every Friday within the public administration. This initiative, led by the president of the Refoundation of the Republic, Colonel Michaël Randrianiriana, aims to promote Malagasy identity and enhance national cultural heritage.
"Malagasy attire" designates clothing that showcases Madagascar's cultural identity or the distinctive characteristics of different regions of the country. It can be traditional or modernized, provided it retains the characteristic elements of Malagasy clothing heritage," the Council of Ministers' statement continued, published last week.
This notably includes clothing made from traditional Malagasy fabrics, fibers, patterns or ornaments, as well as accompanying accessories.
The text specifies, however, that wearing these outfits must respect the dignity of public service. It must also comply with requirements related to the functions performed, particularly regarding safety, hygiene and occupational health. Wearing a specific uniform remains mandatory when the activity requires it.
