Mpox continues to circulate in Madagascar. A 26-year-old man has died from the disease in the Diana region, according to Professor Jean de Dieu Mamy Randria, Incident Manager of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COUSP). The information was communicated last week during a presentation on the status of the Mpox epidemic in Madagascar, as of July 17. This new death brings the total number of people who have died from Mpox in the country to eighteen. Between December 18, 2025 and July 16, 2026, 4,482 cases were reported in the country, of which 2,905 were confirmed. 4,024 tests were conducted and 2,047 cases were declared recovered. The report also records 18 deaths, with a positivity rate of 72.19%. Professor Jean de Dieu Mamy Randria reminds that Mpox continues to circulate in the country. The disease can be fatal if not treated promptly. It is therefore important to seek medical care quickly if symptoms appear.
