A 37-year-old Yamaha C2 scooter driver died on his birthday, Friday around 9 p.m., on RN1 in Ambohidranomanga, Ambatomirahavavy commune. His two-wheeler, carrying a 24-year-old passenger, struck the rear of a stationary Mercedes 911 truck on the roadside. The heavy vehicle, broken down, had not installed warning triangles but only branches, which failed to adequately alert other road users.
According to witness accounts, various circumstances contributed to the tragedy. The truck was insufficiently marked despite the straight road. The scooter driver, who had consumed alcohol during his birthday celebration, was traveling at high speed and did not have time to brake effectively upon spotting the stopped vehicle. The impact was fatal to the driver, who died instantly. His passenger was seriously injured and is hospitalized. Gendarmes emphasize vigilance, the prohibition of driving after drinking, and compliance with safety regulations. Investigation ongoing.
