Authorities are planning to install a pedestrian footbridge at Tsarasaotra following a fatal accident on this route last week. Safety measures to protect road users on the Tsarasaotra-Ivato road have been announced by the Antananarivo Urban Municipality (CUA). These measures follow a surge in traffic accidents on this stretch. Among the planned projects is the installation of a footbridge for pedestrians crossing the road. "It is expected to be operational by early August at the latest," according to an authorized CUA source.
A recent fatal accident reignited anger among Soavimasoandro residents. Last Friday, they protested on the Tsarasaotra-Ivato road demanding the construction of a pedestrian footbridge.
The infrastructure is currently being prepared. According to an authorized CUA source, technical studies are already complete. The project is awaiting the signing of a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement, the final step before work begins.
The CUA also plans to raise existing speed bumps. "Cobra" type street lights have been installed to improve visibility and safety in the area.
These measures follow a fatal accident that occurred on the evening of Thursday, July 16 on the Tsarasaotra-Ivato road.
Road safety measures were already implemented on national road RN52 linking Tsarasaotra to Ivato in March, following a protest by local residents who denounced a series of injuries and deaths since the road opened.
The Ministry of Public Works had installed speed reduction devices and pedestrian facilities to reduce accident risks on this section.
The Municipality urges drivers to respect speed limits and exercise caution while driving. It also calls on pedestrians to remain vigilant and cross only at designated locations.
