The celebration of the 160th anniversary of the Malagasy press has officially begun. The festivities were launched yesterday during a ceremony held in the conference hall of the Sports and Culture Palace in Mahamasina, marking the start of a series of activities designed to highlight the history, role, and challenges of the press in Madagascar. This commemoration, led by the Order of Journalists of Madagascar, aims to pay tribute to more than a century and a half of existence of a profession that has accompanied the major stages of the country's political, economic, social, and cultural history. Beyond the opening ceremony, several events are planned throughout this celebration. Exhibitions will also trace the major milestones of the Malagasy press through archives, historical publications, and testimonies illustrating its development since its inception. This celebration is also an opportunity to recall the contribution of generations of journalists who, for 160 years, have participated in informing the public and fostering democratic debate.
