Alice N'Diaye, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was in Malawi for the 28th ordinary meeting of the SADC Troika Ministerial Committee. Held in Salima, Malawi, on Thursday, July 16, during the 28th ordinary meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ responsible for cooperation in political, defense and security matters (CMO), the Malagasy delegation advocated for the country's "refoundation" process. This position was reinforced by the official SADC communiqué, which highlighted the "progress of reconciliation initiatives facilitated by SADC in Madagascar," alongside peace efforts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Led by Foreign Affairs Minister Alice N'Diaye, the Malagasy delegation participated in this high-level meeting alongside ministers from SADC member states to examine major challenges related to peace, security, political stability and democratic governance in the regional space. During the examination of Madagascar's situation, the head of Malagasy diplomacy presented advances achieved and short and medium-term perspectives of the Refoundation Program. Her intervention particularly focused on the next stages of the transition, notably the organization of national consultations under the aegis of the Ecumenical Council of Christian Churches of Madagascar (FFKM), the overhaul of the electoral framework and future electoral deadlines intended to mark the return to constitutional order. In her intervention, Alice N'Diaye also emphasized the need to strengthen coordination between regional and international partners. She advocated for "concerted action between SADC, the African Union and the United Nations to ensure coherent, complementary and effective support for the refoundation process." The minister nevertheless recalled that SADC remains the central regional actor in this matter, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity governing African organizations' interventions in crisis prevention and resolution. A message launched by the Malagasy government to reaffirm the leading role of the sub-regional organization, as several international partners, notably the United Nations and the African Union, continue their engagement with Madagascar in supporting the political transition.
