National police are prepared to intensify operations against criminal gangs in Toamasina Renivohitra, as armed robberies and theft occur almost nightly in the city's red zones. Police teams briefed journalists on the incident that occurred last night in Toamasina. Three criminals were killed by the UIR (Rapid Intervention Unit) of the national police, under the command of the central police station in Toamasina Renivohitra. Multiple gangs have been conducting armed robberies and thefts throughout Toamasina at night, but police have recently intensified surveillance and monitoring of these criminals. During an armed robbery and theft operation in Ambalakisoa, a district in Toamasina, the UIR team clashed with the gang on a busy road in the P/elle 21/61 area of Ambalakisoa. The confrontation resulted in three criminals being killed, while three others were arrested, though two later escaped and remain at large. Three firearms were recovered from the three killed criminals, though identifying their owners remains difficult as investigations continue by law enforcement and judicial authorities. Police leadership stated that they did not initiate the confrontation but responded to the criminals' actions. Authorities have urged residents not to leave their homes when gunfire erupts to avoid casualties. The three bodies have been taken to Analakininina hospital for identification by families. Three other associates remain under investigation, with police pursuing additional suspects. Toamasina's security remains the priority for police committed to combating criminal gangs threatening residents.
