A taxi driver narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt on Wednesday, July 15 in Ambohimanambola. According to him, two individuals boarded his vehicle to reach the fokontany of Ampanobe, in the municipality of Masindray, around 1:53 p.m. Upon arrival, one passenger attempted to strangle him with a rope while the other threatened him with a knife. The driver, R. S., residing in Ambodiaviavy, managed to trigger his car's anti-theft alarm and call for help. Alerted by the screams, neighbors intervened and beat the suspects before a gendarmerie patrol arrived quickly. The two alleged kidnappers, A. P., 43, residing in Bemasoandro-Itaosy, and N. K., 25, living in Isotry, were taken to the Ambohimanambola Level II Basic Health Center for minor treatment. They were then placed in custody at the local advanced post. The driver filed a complaint and an investigation was opened. Gendarmes are calling on the public to immediately report any suspicious behavior to prevent similar incidents.
