In Soavimasoandro, a 24-year-old young woman, the only child of her parents, died after being struck by a 4x4. Her father was injured. The families of the victims are denouncing the driver's conduct.
A fatal accident occurred Thursday evening around 7 p.m. on the Tsarasaotra-Ivato ring road, near Atsimompefiloha in Soavimasoandro. A father and his only daughter, aged 24, were hit by a white 4x4 while crossing a pedestrian crossing built on a speed bump. The young woman died instantly. Her father, seriously injured, was rushed to hospital.
That evening, the father had just left a funeral vigil before going to pick up his daughter, as he did every evening after work. On the way back, tragedy struck them hard. "This young girl was her father's pride. And this is what happens to us. The 4x4 driver hit them and then fled. We are devastated," said an uncle of the victim, visibly moved.
According to residents, the vehicle, coming from Ivato, was traveling at high speed before striking the two pedestrians. It fled immediately after impact.
Surveillance cameras installed nearby did not allow clear identification of the vehicle's license plate. However, residents believe that recordings from the Tsarasaotra roundabout could provide more precise information.
Outrage
The devastated family recalls that this was their only daughter, single and childless. "Just a few months ago, we were already struck by another loss. And today, another misfortune befalls us on this same road. The daughter is dead, the father is wounded. How will he bear learning that his daughter is gone?" continued a family member.
Another family member insisted: "Three members of our family have already lost their lives, hit by cars here. We demand the construction of a footbridge for crossing and the installation of effective surveillance cameras. Drivers who commit these hit-and-run offenses disappear and are never found."
Yesterday morning, residents expressed their outrage by blocking traffic and burning tires. They are demanding concrete measures to secure the crossing. Police used tear gas grenades to disperse them.
