Three occupants of a Sprinter fell into an ambush in Antanifotsy after being lured by a fake personnel transport mission. The vehicle owner was murdered with knife wounds. His driver was bound, while the assistant driver managed to escape and alert authorities. The assistant driver's testimony is currently the main source of information about the incident. The tragedy occurred during the night of July 14-15 in Antanety I, commune of Soamanandrariny, Antanifotsy district. According to the assistant driver's statement to investigators, he and his colleagues had accepted a proposal to transport workers from a public works company for an announced daily fee of 180,000 ariary. They left Sambaina around 6 p.m. heading to the meeting point. Upon arrival in Antanety, the three individuals who had contacted them asked them to stop the vehicle, claiming they were waiting for others. After a long wait and under cover of darkness, the suspects allegedly acted. The driver, a 21-year-old from Ambohibary commune, Antsirabe II district, was reportedly bound. The vehicle owner, a 70-year-old also residing in the same commune, was stabbed six times before his body was abandoned in a bush. The criminals then fled with the Sprinter. The assistant driver, 20 years old and also from Antsirabe II district, managed to escape and found refuge with a resident of Antanety I. Thanks to his call for help, gendarmes from the Ambilona fixed post were alerted at 1:15 a.m. and immediately went to the scene. They discovered the victim's lifeless body bearing six stab wounds. After investigations with a doctor, the body was handed over to the family. A joint investigation by the Gendarmerie and National Police is underway to identify those responsible for this murder and vehicle theft. This case highlights a particularly concerning modus operandi. Criminals now appear to be using fake offers to lure victims to isolated locations before robbing them. A method that demands increased vigilance from transporters and anyone solicited for missions by strangers.
