Tensions have resurfaced within the Jesosy Mamonjy Church. Yesterday, believers gathered outside the church headquarters in Ankorondrano with banners, opposing the scheduled election of the Board of Directors (CA) set for July 18. Police were present at the scene. Some believers are seeking state intervention over what they call a "forced" election. "For four years, tensions have persisted due to electoral fraud, which has divided the Jesosy Mamonjy Church into four factions. The time had come to unite and restore peace, but the headquarters leadership refuses and wants to maintain control of management. Five CA members support postponing the election, while four oppose it and want to proceed," said Pastor Jules from Brickaville, spokesperson for believers opposed to the election. For the opposition, the election must be conditional on prior reconciliation and restoration of unity. "If they insist on holding it, they will see what happens because we, representatives from the provinces, have all arrived here," warned the pastor. According to him, the rights of all baptized believers on the island are being violated. Only 20% of believers reportedly have the required biometric card. For him, this situation represents total disregard for the majority within the CA. From the church headquarters, officials affirm that no date change is being considered. Preparations are proceeding. No official has wished to comment to clarify the organization of this election. The opposition has warned that disturbances may occur if the vote takes place, as they will not back down.
