JIRAMA informed its customers yesterday that a production deficit of approximately 29 MW is currently disrupting electricity distribution in several localities of the Antananarivo Interconnected Network (RIA). The announcement was made on the company's official page to explain the resumption of power cuts. In recent times, electricity outages have intensified in Antananarivo and other major cities, including Toamasina. Regarding Tana, the Water and Electricity Company cited "an exceptional situation due to the combination of two major technical factors": a technical incident at TAC 1 in Ambohimanambola and a critical drop in water levels at Andekaleka. The water level at the site has reached its minimum alert threshold of 357.7 meters. This situation requires the immediate shutdown of two units at the Andekaleka hydroelectric plant, according to explanations. As the dry season has just begun, the Antananarivo Interconnected Network is already facing repeated electricity cuts. As the cycle progresses, the situation risks worsening if no innovative solutions are implemented. It is clear that power cuts represent a real headache for the Refoundation regime. It should be recalled that this scourge was at the origin of the Gen Z uprising that led to the overthrow of the Rajoelina regime. At the beginning of his mandate, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina committed to ending power cuts as soon as possible.
