The Vondrozo district, nestled in the heart of the Atsimo-Atsinanana region, is becoming the stage for major social transformation through a hopeful initiative. In this part of the Great Island, school dropout among adolescent girls remains a significant challenge, with over 5,000 young girls outside the education system. Facing this reality, often linked to early marriages and increased vulnerabilities, the Vondrozo Vocational Training Center now stands as a true bulwark. Supported by UNICEF, this institution offers these out-of-school youth an invaluable chance to rebuild themselves and achieve independence. This lifesaving dynamic is based on the deployment of the ELAN program (Empowerment, Leadership, Autonomy and new opportunities for Madagascar). Financed by the French UNICEF Committee since April 2026, this ambitious three-year project directly aims to break the vicious cycle of poverty. By directing learning toward modern agricultural techniques, the program allows adolescent girls to familiarize themselves with plot management and compost production. Far from being simple training, this comprehensive approach includes entrepreneurship initiation and the acquisition of essential life skills to protect these future farmers against gender-based violence. On the ground, the involvement of local trainers, who do not hesitate to raise awareness directly with community families, strengthens the impact of this transition. The ELAN program does not merely deliver technical knowledge: it redefines the place of the young Malagasy girl within the rural economy by giving her the keys to a chosen and autonomous future.
