On Monday around 7:10 p.m. in the darkness, particularly in Mangarano District 11/47, an armed robbery occurred at a cash point kiosk in Mangarano, Toamasina Renivohitra. Three men arrived at the location and attempted to steal money still inside the cash box. The three men were armed with PA firearms and took the cash box, house keys, and all belongings from the female kiosk attendant. However, the woman resisted strongly and fought back, preventing the men from obtaining the money that day. Despite the men's attempts at intimidation, she refused to hand over the cash until the end. The men became frustrated, and the community began to gather. The only thing the men managed to take before fleeing was what they had brought with them. Community members attempted to pursue the three men, but they disappeared and were not seen again. Additionally, all the food vendors near the kiosk fled the scene upon witnessing the incident and the firearms. The shop owner also fled after seeing what happened and the weapons carried by the men. The exact amount of money in the cash box taken by the men remains unknown. Security officials warn that cash point robberies are returning to neighborhoods across the region, and they are calling for increased surveillance in Toamasina. Security authorities also urge the power company to improve street lighting, as darkness often encourages criminal activity. The government has already made efforts to assist Toamasina's power company with equipment to prevent further power outages in the city. By Didier
