Panic fueled by child abduction rumors continues to trigger violent reactions across the country. On Sunday, July 13, in Ihazolava, in the commune of Ambohimpihaonana, Ambatolampy district, five teachers from Antananarivo narrowly escaped mob violence after being mistakenly identified as child abductors. Their vehicle was vandalized before gendarmes intervened. The incident occurred during the day. The five members of an educational team had traveled to the area to organize a training and awareness session for parents and teachers from Antanimbarilehibe. Arriving in the morning in a Starex-type vehicle, they had to wait several hours in Ihazolava for equipment coming from Antsirabe. This unusual delay quickly fueled suspicion among residents. By late afternoon, rumors spread through the village that the vehicle's occupants were child abductors. Villagers gathered around the vehicle, triggering a crowd movement. Before law enforcement arrived, the Starex had already sustained significant damage: the rear window was broken and a front tire was punctured. Alerted by the commune mayor, gendarmes from the Ambohimpihaonana fixed post responded quickly to restore calm. Through dialogue with residents, the situation was brought under control without any injuries. The five teachers and their vehicle were then escorted under protection near the gendarmerie post to ensure their safety. This incident once again illustrates the concerning consequences of the panic surrounding alleged child abductions. In recent days, several unverified rumors have triggered panic movements and attempted mob justice in various locations across the country. Law enforcement urges the public to exercise restraint, not to fall victim to false information, and to report any suspicious behavior to competent authorities rather than resorting to mob justice. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the vandalism of the vehicle.
