Electricity: 29 MW production shortfall on RIA network
Scheduled power cuts are back due to technical incidents. A production deficit of approximately 29 MW is currently disrupting electricity distribution in several localities of the Antananarivo Interconnected Network (RIA). According to Solofonantenaina Rakotonandraina, director of RIA, this situation results from a combination of two major incidents affecting production facilities. On one hand, a technical problem occurred on the combustion turbine (TAC 1) of Jirama at Ambohimanambola. On the other hand, water levels at Andekaleka have reached the critical minimum threshold of 357.7 meters. This critical drop forced the company to immediately shut down two units of the hydroelectric plant. JIRAMA indicates that its technical teams are fully mobilized to repair the affected installations and better distribute the remaining production. Measures are also being studied to address the dry season period, marked by a decrease in hydraulic resources. While awaiting gradual restoration of the situation, disruptions could still affect certain neighborhoods. Antsa R.
