An attempted abduction targeting a 7-year-old girl was thwarted in Mantasoa late last week. The three suspects, quickly apprehended by gendarmes, have been placed in provisional detention at Tsiafahy prison. The incident occurred in the fokontany of Kongorevo, commune of Mantasoa. Three men traveling on two motorcycles—a white Kymco Myroad and a blue PGO—allegedly attempted to abduct a 7-year-old girl while she was with her mother. Alerted by the screams of the mother and child, several people mobilized. Panicked, the suspects immediately fled without managing to take the girl. The victims quickly reported the incident to local authorities, who immediately notified the gendarmerie. A search operation was launched and the three individuals were eventually intercepted at Ampanazava before being arrested. During the investigation, the mother and daughter formally identified the three men as the perpetrators of the attempted abduction. Gendarmes also seized the two motorcycles allegedly used in the crime. Fearing a violent reaction from the population, law enforcement transferred the suspects to another gendarmerie station during their custody to prevent any risk of lynching. Following the investigation conducted by the Mantasoa gendarmerie brigade, the three men were presented to the prosecutor's office. They were subsequently placed in provisional detention at Tsiafahy prison, pending further judicial proceedings.
