ANKATSO - Security agents screen campus entry
Access to Antananarivo University's campus is under surveillance. University security service agents systematically check people entering through the gates. Student badges or other identification documents are required from anyone entering. "We have been securing the entrance since March. This measure was strengthened following suspicions of child and person abductions," said Andriamihaja Rasolofo, deputy head of security at Antananarivo University, yesterday. Criminals are reportedly operating within the university grounds. Most pose as someone else to steal mobile phones, primarily. "Since the beginning of this year, we have recorded around fifteen complaints," the official continued, noting that most victims do not file reports. This university campus has also become a shortcut for local residents, transforming it into an ideal hunting ground for criminals. "Residents in the area should use public roads rather than cutting through the campus to get around," he added. To strengthen student security, Antananarivo University's administration has decided to restrict class schedules. Classes will now begin at 7 a.m. and must end by 5 p.m.
