Madagascar's government and CGHV (Compagnie générale d'hydroélectrique de Volobe) are ready to begin construction of a new hydroelectric dam at Volobe II in Toamasina. The signing ceremony for the partnership agreement took place recently between the government, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Climate, and CGHV's general director, in the presence of the Head of Government. This significant milestone, in accordance with Malagasy law, will enable progress in financing arrangements and infrastructure development for electricity generation, with infrastructure returning to state ownership after the agreement expires. Construction of a 45km access road to the Volobe II hydroelectric site will begin shortly. Upon completion, the facility will generate 127MW of electricity for Madagascar, benefiting businesses and households across the country. During the signing ceremony, the Head of Government stated that the project plays a crucial role in national development. "Many young people will find employment during construction, and Malagasy citizens will benefit from clean electricity produced," he said. CGHV's general director confirmed that "the project remains a priority and aligns with sustainable development goals." CGHV is committed to accelerating work while maintaining quality and regulatory standards, ensuring communities in Toamasina and across Madagascar benefit from the project. All partner companies are prepared for full implementation, as all contractual agreements have been finalized.
