Madagascar Oil is raising the bar to boost production. The company is accelerating the ramp-up of its Tsimiroro oil project. Four months after resuming operations, Madagascar Oil has announced increased forecasts and set a target of reaching 600 barrels per day by year-end, double the objective announced when operations restarted.
Recorded Performance
When production resumed in March 2026, Madagascar Oil had set a target of 300 barrels per day before year-end. Today, the company indicates that performance recorded on-site since the restart allows it to envision 600 barrels per day by end-2026, using existing wells. This upward revision is based notably on initial field results, progressive modernization of production facilities, and strengthened operational teams. Beyond this first phase, Madagascar Oil is already preparing the next stage of Tsimiroro field development. A new drilling campaign is currently being prepared to increase production capacity. The company is thus preparing to reach nearly 3,000 barrels per day within the next 24 months. This acceleration aligns with the medium-term development strategy of the oil project.
Customs Regime
Madagascar Oil emphasizes that continuing this new development phase remains closely tied to effective implementation of petroleum code provisions. The company particularly highlights the importance of the customs regime applicable to oil investments, concerning imports of specialized equipment essential for operations. According to the company, effective implementation of these provisions is essential to support investments needed for production increases. This acceleration in production pace is all the more necessary as, over the next 24 months, the country could achieve a degree of independence in heavy oil. If Madagascar Oil's targets are truly met, Jirama's priority needs would be largely covered, and it would be promising if the oil operator goes further and produces more than the 3,000 barrels announced. A very interesting prospect for the national economy.
