Ocean Security: Maritime Governance Gets an Upgrade
With its vast maritime space, Madagascar faces multiple challenges related to sea security, marine resource protection, and combating illicit activities. To address these issues, the Malagasy National Navy and the Maritime Information Fusion Centre (CFIM) are organizing a national workshop on maritime governance and security from July 15-17. Supported by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) through the Safe Seas Africa and EU CRIMARIO projects, with European Union funding, this workshop aims to produce recommendations for strengthening Madagascar's maritime security architecture. The goal is also to support blue economy development and enhance maritime cooperation in the western Indian Ocean. The meeting will bring together institutions involved in State action at sea, relevant administrations, and technical and international partners. Discussions will focus on strengthening coordination between actors, improving information sharing, and establishing a common vision to address maritime challenges.
