A fire that broke out Friday evening in Tsaralalàna and was previously reported has claimed the life of a family man. The blaze, which started around 18:22, is believed to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit, according to those close to the victim. Fanned by strong winds, it spread rapidly and destroyed the first and second floors of the building, leaving only a few ground floor rooms intact. Firefighters arrived within minutes but were hampered by the narrow alleyways and the intensity of the flames. The victim, 45 years old, apparently attempted to rescue valuable belongings left inside. Asphyxiated, he collapsed on the staircase. The fire burned for more than four and a half hours before being brought under control. The house and its contents were completely destroyed, including the family's savings, important documents, and school materials belonging to children preparing for their baccalaureate exams. Twelve families were affected and fifty-two people are now homeless. Authorities visited the scene to provide support and distribute emergency aid.
