One year after a devastating fire destroyed its technical facilities in Ambalavato, the Antsirabe thermal power plant is finally ready to restart operations. Filatex Energy announced that the site is once again capable of generating electricity. After several months of reconstruction, technical teams have completed equipment mobilization and finished essential safety tests. The Antsirabe thermal plant is now entering a gradual restart phase before eventually reaching full capacity. This return to operations comes at a particularly critical time for the national energy sector. In recent months, the dry season has significantly reduced hydroelectric production, intensifying pressure on the Antananarivo Interconnected Network (RIA). The restart of the Antsirabe thermal plant is precisely aimed at addressing this deficit. "The energy injected will directly strengthen the Antananarivo Interconnected Network," the group emphasized. A Much-Needed Boost This resumption represents a much-needed boost for users and economic actors in the Vakinankaratra region as well as the capital. Many acknowledge that energy is a vital and essential need for the population and businesses. For the past year, energy supply to these two regions has suffered frequent disruptions following the disaster. It should be recalled that the fire was caused by the explosion of a power transformer, which subsequently damaged two other transformers and an electrical panel in the plant's technical facilities, plunging the entire city of Antsirabe into darkness. Fortunately, no injuries were reported thanks to rapid and coordinated interventions by all stakeholders. Long-Term Effort During rehabilitation work, a mobile unit of one megawatt (1 MW) was deployed by the group to minimize impact on the population. Rebuilding an installation completely destroyed by flames required extensive technical effort, involving, among other things, complete replacement of damaged equipment and strengthened safety controls.
