The Vehicle Technical Control Centre (CCTV), under the General Directorate of Road Safety (DGSR), presented its main missions and the procedures for unannounced technical inspections conducted on roads. This information campaign aims to better publicize the role of this institution and strengthen prevention of accidents linked to vehicle technical failures. General Andriantody Jean Benoît, director in charge of coordinating road operations (DGSR/DOR), recalled that the Vehicle Technical Control Centre is a public service whose primary mission is to ensure road safety, as well as technical and administrative compliance of vehicles circulating on national territory. The Centre is notably responsible for technical inspections before customs clearance, technical reception of vehicles, and periodic technical inspections. It also conducts awareness and education campaigns for all road users to promote good road safety practices. Lieutenant-Colonel Rakotomampianina Rija Alberto, head of operations and unannounced roadside technical inspection services, explained that these operations aim to detect vehicles with defects that could endanger their occupants and other road users. He detailed the main violations found during inspections, including technical defects that could render a vehicle unfit for circulation, as well as violations under legislation that can result in criminal penalties, including imprisonment in certain cases. For his part, Lieutenant-Colonel Rakotoarisoa Eugène, head of the anti-corruption service at the Vehicle Technical Control Centre, emphasized that no fines are collected directly at roadside control points. All payments must be made exclusively at authorized centres. This procedure aims to combat any corruption attempts involving both inspectors and drivers. Through this information campaign, the DGSR intends to raise awareness among motorists and two-wheeler riders about the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, both mechanically and administratively. Officials remind that a properly maintained vehicle helps reduce accident risks and allows drivers to avoid any difficulties during technical inspections carried out on roads.
