It involves a 30-year-old woman residing in Toamasina. The announcement was made during the presentation of the epidemiological report on Mpox evolution in the country by Professor Diavolana Köcher Andrianarimanana, from the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COUSP), on July 8.
The epidemiological situation of Mpox in Madagascar continues to evolve. According to the latest report covering the period from December 18, 2025 to July 8, 2026, 4,202 suspected cases have been reported across the country. Among them, 2,701 were confirmed after analysis, representing a positivity rate of 72.06%. In total, 1,889 patients have recovered, while 17 deaths linked to the disease have been recorded. Health authorities specify that 3,749 samples have been tested since the beginning of the epidemic.
"We encourage vulnerable children, pregnant women, people living with HIV, and those with chronic diseases such as diabetes or kidney disease to remain vigilant. We also invite the entire population to visit health facilities offering vaccination, as this vaccine is available in the country," states Prof. Diavolana Köcher Andrianarimanana, from the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COUSP).
