A double homicide has devastated the fokontany of Ankerambe, in the commune of Ambano, Antsirabe II district, on Monday, July 6. Two members of the same family were found dead at their home, while two zebus belonging to them had disappeared. Investigators are focusing on the theory of cattle theft that turned violent. The incident came to light when, around 11 a.m., the commander of the Andrakodavaka gendarmerie post was alerted to a zebu theft accompanied by a homicide in Andranomandevy. Two gendarmes immediately went to the scene for initial investigations. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of two men inside the house. The victims, identified as Raivomanana, aged 70, and Jean Fidy Ratelolahy, 50, had their hands bound and bore multiple wounds. The two female zebus belonging to the family were no longer in the enclosure, strengthening the hypothesis of cattle theft. According to initial findings by the medical examiner who conducted the autopsy, both victims died from stab wounds to the back. Death is believed to have occurred around noon. Following standard procedures, the bodies were handed over to relatives for burial. An investigation has been opened by the gendarmerie to identify the perpetrators of this double murder and recover the stolen animals. This new tragedy once again highlights that zebu theft continues to claim victims in several regions of the country, where criminals increasingly resort to extreme violence to achieve their goals.
