Solar power plants are emerging as alternatives to combat power cuts. Solar energy production is increasing. Jirama announced the injection of an additional 2 MW into the Antananarivo Interconnected Network (RIA) this week. This contribution comes from the new Ilafy solar park, which is beginning its operational startup phase. Although this commissioning is good news during the dry season when hydroelectric plant production decreases, the full potential of these facilities remains limited by current weather conditions. During the southern winter, solar plant efficiency drops significantly. "When weather is overcast, production decreases substantially," notes a Jirama source. Total solar power injected into the RIA reached 12.5 MW at the end of May, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEH). This capacity is distributed across four key sites. Mangatany produces 5 MW, Ampangabe produces 5 MWc, Ambatomirahavavy produces 1.5 MWc, and Ambohidrano Ilafy currently produces 2 MWc. Energy transition is still being rolled out. Whether Ilafy, Ambatomirahavavy, Mangatany, or Ampangabe, none of these sites are yet fully completed.
