The Urban Municipality of Antananarivo (CUA) has launched a traffic simulation operation on the Ankadimbahoaka–Tsimbazaza–Fasan'ny Karana intersection axes. This initiative mobilizes relevant stakeholders to evaluate measures aimed at improving traffic flow in this congested area.
"We conducted a traffic simulation at Ankadimbahoaka to identify main congestion points. The analysis focused on vehicles heading south, from the Ankadimbahoaka roundabout to the By-pass exit. It emerged that vehicles cutting through traffic to use Poinimerina, Ankaditoho and Tsimbazaza streets are the main cause of traffic jams. Whether vehicles turning onto these roads or exiting them to reach RN7, these maneuvers simultaneously disrupt different traffic lanes and affect up to five vehicle flows," explains Andrianina Ratsimba, divisional police commissioner and director of Transport and Urban Mobility (DMTU) at CUA.
Bus Stop Removals
The objective is to reduce traffic congestion on these main axes as much as possible and improve travel conditions for all road users.
"In return, vehicles can now access the street leading to CAPSAT. The road is currently in good condition. Clear signage will be installed, with signs and road markings, to better guide drivers and avoid confusion. We will also consider user feedback to integrate it into this new traffic organization. Once the system is finalized, it will be made public," continues the DMTU.
Among the solutions being studied are also the removal or relocation of certain bus stops, to facilitate vehicle circulation and reduce congestion. CUA notes that this simulation phase is currently underway. Drivers, public transport operators and pedestrians are invited to follow instructions from agents deployed on site to ensure smooth operation and effectiveness.
"Final decisions and the implementation timeline for any modifications will be communicated to the public following ongoing studies and preparations," CUA announced in a statement released yesterday.
