Since this week, neighborhood leaders are being called upon to monitor their environment and report to authorities any individual or behavior deemed suspicious. "We have been instructed to monitor our zone and immediately report any suspicious behavior or profile to higher authorities," said Jean Maxime Razafimahatratra, president of the Ampangabe fokontany in the 4th district of the Urban Municipality of Antananarivo (CUA), yesterday. District authorities and security officials met with fokontany chiefs on Monday to transmit these new directives. They are banking on this new system to strengthen security. Several forms of insecurity are currently gaining ground in the city of Antananarivo, ranging from simple theft to more serious acts such as murders or child disappearances, which are keeping the population on edge. Current year figures reveal that the Analamanga region is the hardest hit by the phenomenon, with ninety cases of missing children recorded since the beginning of the year, according to the Ministry of Public Security. Forty-three have been found, while forty-seven cases remain without information. Other disappearance reports have been recorded in recent days. Coordination Fokontany leaders note that this new mission will not be easy. They plan to focus primarily on controlling non-resident visitors. "Newcomers must present a certificate of change of residence or, failing that, a letter issued by their fokontany of origin attesting to their origin. Those who do not have one, we will photograph them," explains the president of the Andavamamba Anatihazo I fokontany. Faced with the alarming increase in disappearances, coordination between several institutions has been established. Hundreds of law enforcement members are deployed throughout Antananarivo to conduct patrols and surveillance operations in all sectors to prevent further disappearances. Among the personnel are members of the Army, Gendarmerie, and National Police. The Ministry of Public Security also announces the reinforcement of police personnel in the field to intensify routine patrols in the heart of corridors, alleys, and maze-like popular neighborhoods. Justice, the National Police, the Gendarmerie, and the Ministry of Population are joining forces. This strategic partnership is centered on intelligence gathering and sharing, while actively pursuing investigations into ongoing cases. Large-scale awareness campaigns are being conducted jointly by the Ministry of Population and the Brigade of Morals and Protection of Minors (BPM) of the National Police to mobilize public opinion.
