A reception center for people with albinism is under construction in Ihosy. Elisa Randrianirina, wife of the President of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, responded to a call for solidarity launched by authorities in favor of this vulnerable community. She is financing the construction of this reception, care and education center through her association Fanjiry, aimed at protecting these individuals. "My heart bleeds at the persecutions, suffering and murders endured by our fellow citizens for no valid reason. (...) I will not abandon you, you are my family and my fellow citizens," declared the First Lady with emotion during the official ceremony for laying the foundation stone, marking the launch of work yesterday.
This new complex will have a capacity of approximately 125 people. It will include a place of worship and contemplation, separate dormitories for men and women, and a medical care center. The infrastructure is expected to be completed in December. "Support us in the difficult fight we wage daily against insecurity and social exclusion," said Fulgence Soja, president of the local association of people with albinism.
The First Lady launched a vibrant appeal for general mobilization to protect people with albinism. She urges everyone to uphold values of brotherhood and solidarity. People with albinism are victims of serious discrimination, various forms of violence in their daily and professional lives, and face the constant threat of abductions throughout Madagascar, particularly in southern regions. Motivated by the false belief that their physical attributes possess precious virtues, these acts of great cruelty keep this community in daily insecurity and anguish.
