A second batch of Mpox vaccines was officially received at the Ivato storage center last Sunday. An official delegation welcomed a crucial delivery of 30,000 doses of Imvanex. Madagascar is strengthening its vaccination arsenal. Through optimized vial usage, this stock will allow for up to 150,000 injections to be administered. This shipment is destined for the entire national territory. It will ensure both second doses for those already vaccinated and vaccination of new volunteers. "The available doses are more than sufficient to meet our needs," assured the Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health during his address, while acknowledging the decisive support of strategic partners such as the WHO, CDC, UNICEF, and Gavi.
Prevention
This vaccination offensive is part of a strict roadmap, led by the Malagasy government under the direction of Public Health Minister Dr Managna Monira. Facing the Mpox threat, authorities firmly remind that vaccination remains the only barrier to break the virus transmission chain and durably protect the population. The campaign prioritizes the most exposed groups, particularly medically vulnerable persons, mobile professionals, or those in occupations involving frequent inter-regional contacts. Beyond immunization alone, the ministry is deploying a multi-sectoral community strategy. Massive awareness campaigns are actively conducted in high-traffic areas (markets, bus stations, churches, and schools) to anchor prevention practices in the daily lives of Malagasy people.
