The Brevet d'études du premier cycle (BEPC) begins this Monday across Madagascar. This 2026 session brings together 327,815 candidates distributed across 1,101 examination centers under 115 School Districts (CISCO). After months of preparation, secondary school students are entering a crucial stage of their academic journey. Today's program includes Malagasy language in the morning, followed by Life and Earth Sciences (SVT) in the afternoon. To ensure smooth examinations, authorities have renewed their call for strict compliance with regulations. Any attempt to substitute a candidate is strictly forbidden and exposes both the candidate and their replacement to immediate exclusion, a ban from official exams for one to three years, and potential legal proceedings. Using or simply bringing a mobile phone or any electronic device into examination rooms is also considered fraud. Examiners are equally bound by strict rules: any manipulation of grades or irregularities during marking is subject to administrative and judicial sanctions. In Antananarivo, an exceptional transport system supports this first day. From dawn, 84 Foton buses marked "Exams" operate on 21 routes to provide free transport for BEPC and BEP candidates to their examination centers. Vehicles serve 20 centers, including 15 for BEPC and 5 for BEP. First departures begin at 5:30 a.m., with buses waiting for candidates until 6:10 a.m. at their terminals. Access is reserved for students with their admission tickets, accompanied by one person only. This operation, organized jointly by the State, Antananarivo City Council, the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training, and the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology, aims to reduce family expenses while minimizing delays on exam day. To provide better conditions for candidates between morning and afternoon exams, the public gardens of Anosy, Ambohijatovo, Analakely, and Antaninarenina will remain exceptionally open during the lunch break. Students can rest there before resuming afternoon exams. This organization reflects authorities' commitment to ensuring a smooth 2026 BEPC session.
