The national police have announced a policy regarding traffic control officers and those monitoring traffic violations. Around 500 officers will be deployed, with significant numbers in the Analamanga region. Before their return, these officers underwent training and equipment preparation. A distinctive identifying mark is the 'gilet' uniform, which comes in different types and colors—some for traffic control officers only, and others for field officers who check documents and issue fines. Traffic police had been absent for some time but are now returning. They were withdrawn, their capabilities were reassessed, and they will resume duties starting Monday. Various previous complaints have been completely resolved, including those from road users who had been affected, and these were addressed during the training program. Many road users feel that traffic control and fine-issuing should now rely more on technology. This includes installing traffic lights that can replace officers. This would be beneficial since too many traffic police are needed for law enforcement against lawlessness, but due to lack of equipment, they end up managing traffic instead and cannot fully focus on their primary responsibility of maintaining public order.
