A 4 MW HFO engine will be put into service this July. Residents of Antsiranana have been complaining about frequent power cuts that have disrupted their daily activities for some time. "We recognize the inconvenience caused by current electricity supply disruptions and their impact on the city's daily life and economic activities. These disruptions are mainly linked to heavy maintenance operations currently underway on several production units," Enelec said, the company managing the thermal power plant in Antsiranana through Chelsea Energy. The company added that these interventions, essential for proper facility operation, are part of an upgrade program made necessary by the postponement of certain maintenance operations in previous years, in a context marked by significant accumulated payment delays. Enelec wants to reassure all Antsiranana users: actions are already underway to strengthen its production capacity, which will gradually help stabilize the city's electricity supply. Scheduled for this July, a 4 MW HFO engine is being deployed to provide additional thermal capacity. Its commissioning is expected this July, it was learned. Furthermore, the company plans to launch, in the coming months, phase 2 of the Diego solar project, with an additional capacity of 8 MW, complementing the 2 MW already operational. Wind farm deployment work is also continuing. The first capacities are expected to be commissioned in mid-September 2026. These investments reflect the Filatex group's commitment to sustainably improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply to Antsiranana, it was noted. In the meantime, Enelec and Chelsea Energy continue their efforts, in close collaboration with competent authorities and Jirama, to minimize the impact of frequent power cuts in this city. These stakeholders are also committed to ensuring a rapid return to a stabilized situation meeting the region's growing energy needs, it was concluded.
