Urban landscape is shifting around the Eastern Ring Road. Since mid-June, construction equipment has been active demolishing part of its concrete borders. A new municipal road is under construction at this location. This future strategic axis will directly connect the Ambolokandrina district to the Eastern Ring Road. Two distinct new openings will serve as entry and exit points on the ring road. Scheduled to last five months, this major construction project should be completely finished by November 2026.
According to project plans, this new road includes several key facilities. The large information panel installed at the site entrance indicates construction of water collection channels and improved intersections for pedestrians and cyclists.
This is a public-private partnership (PPP) between the Ministry of Land Planning and Land Services and the Indian Ocean Trading Company, according to information displayed on the site. When internal ministry sources are questioned, they claim to have no information about the ongoing work.
Construction of this road is welcomed by road users and residents of the district. "We no longer have to take the detour through Mahazo or Ambohipo to reach the Bypass," says Hery, an Ambolokandrina resident.
