Colonel Michaël Randrianirina's convoy was followed by two drones yesterday evening in Ivandry. According to the presidency, an investigation has been opened following this threat against the president of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar. Police halted traffic at the time of the incident.
Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, president of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, faced a direct threat yesterday evening in Ivandry. Two drones followed his convoy around 6:30 p.m. near the La City roundabout as he crossed the neighborhood. Witnesses reported hearing loud explosions and seeing traffic suddenly stopped by police.
"The police told us there was an attempted shooting against the president," recounted a bus passenger. "The vehicle stopped abruptly, we saw a bullet pass and we started praying, terrified," she described. "We heard they wanted to prevent the president from passing," added a bystander, still in shock after seeing law enforcement fire into the air to secure the area before pursuing a suspicious bus.
At High Altitude
In an official statement, the presidency confirmed that two drones indeed followed Colonel Randrianirina's vehicle in the La City sector. Bodyguards spotted the devices, but they were operating at high altitude and managed to move away quickly.
The presidential convoy continued its route without incident, and only one drone was spotted at a distance. The president arrived safely at his residence, where security measures were reinforced. Authorities announced opening an investigation to determine the origin of this attempt and identify those responsible, describing it as a serious threat to national security.
