A deadly domestic fire in Mahajanga has claimed the life of a five-year-old child due to parental negligence. The incident occurred Tuesday in the fokontany of Ambalika, Betsako rural commune, Mahajanga II district. Left alone in the house, the child found a lighter and began playing with it, starting a fire. The dwelling, constructed from local materials, quickly caught fire. Trapped inside, the victim could not escape and died in the flames. The child was unsupervised at the time of the tragedy, raising fresh concerns about parental supervision in such accidents. This is not the first such incident in Mahajanga. Last November, three homes were destroyed by an accidental fire in Tsararano ambony after a child played with fire in a yard.
