Four months after the devastating passage of Cyclone Fytia, which left over 10,000 children without school, classes have resumed in Soalala. National Education Minister Sendra Nirina Rajaonarison and UNICEF representative Christine Jaulmes visited the district to assess reconstruction progress. They toured a temporary classroom at EPP Ampapamena, funded by the UN's CERF fund, and delivered a container of emergency supplies. Against all odds, the district achieved an impressive 88.71% pass rate on the CEPE exam. This success is directly attributed to the rapid mobilization of authorities and their partners in response to damage caused by Cyclones Fytia and Gezani. Since February, UNICEF and the ministry have deployed massive resources to restore learning. Their efforts resulted in constructing 24 temporary classrooms in Soalala and Mitsinjo, setting up 215 temporary spaces in Tamatave and Brickaville, rehabilitating 120 school roofs, and distributing over 55,000 school kits. This emergency response was made possible through funding from CERF and the British FCDO via the "Today and Tomorrow" initiative.
