The recent decision by the Groupement des Entreprises de Madagasikara (GEM) to suspend its participation in joint bodies of economic governance continues to spark reactions. In a contribution published on the Tatitra platform, economist Rapelanoro-Rabenja Harivelo Aimé argues that this GEM position, motivated by a "denial of justice," comes in a context marked by a crisis of confidence in institutions. The author notably recalls that the recent Court of Auditors report, citing over 3,811.6 billion ariary in embezzlement and misconduct over nine months of the 2025 fiscal year, has strengthened expectations regarding transparency and rule of law. In this framework, the GEM's call for "effective rule of law" deserves to be heard, according to him. However, the analysis also underscores the historical responsibility of business leaders, accused of long remaining silent in the face of rising opacity and state capture. For the economist, the GEM's credibility will now depend on its ability to move beyond a defensive stance to engage in the national Refoundation launched on October 14, 2025. The private sector is thus called to actively participate in transparency, combating misconduct, and building more inclusive and sustainable economic governance.
