Through this demonstration, OLEP reaffirms its commitment to strengthening national preparedness and contributing to the protection of marine and coastal environments. An operational demonstration showcases the country's capabilities, through OLEP (the Body for Combating Marine Oil Spill Events), to respond to marine hydrocarbon spill incidents. This was evident during the operation organized on Morondava beach as part of the celebration of World Environment Day on June 29, 2026. The deployment of an anti-pollution boom aimed to present the response capacities of this body, but more importantly to test team mobilization, the use of available equipment, and coordination among relevant actors in an intervention situation. Through this initiative, the Malagasy State reinforces its commitments regarding marine environmental protection, particularly through the implementation of applicable international conventions on the prevention and control of marine pollution. The organization of this operational demonstration also revealed that Morondava is among ten storage sites equipped with materials and equipment for combating marine hydrocarbon pollution, scattered across regions of the country.
