It was one of those first events that leaves a lasting mark long after the lights fade. In Antsiranana, in the heart of July, the Fashion Street, organized by the Tamana association, continues to captivate young people. The event has remained etched in everyone's memory like a refrain that keeps playing. A debut edition hailed from all sides, crowned with success, that proved wrong those who believed the city was asleep. Power cuts tried to steal the spotlight. The streetlights, without electricity, could not illuminate the silhouettes parading on the red carpet. But it would take much more to extinguish the enthusiasm. Almost instinctively, spectators raised their phones to the sky. Public lighting was replaced by hundreds of makeshift lamps. That evening, the light came from the crowd. And it was perhaps the most beautiful scenography.

For a long time, Antsiranana appeared as a peaceful city, sometimes judged too quiet, almost withdrawn. A reputation that overlooked its past. From the second half of the 1990s, then during the 2010s, the city hosted numerous cultural, artistic and popular events that shaped its collective memory. Today, the torch is taken up by a new generation. Since post-Covid, associations, collectives and young creators have brought a fresh wind to the city. They refuse stagnation. They create, they try, they invent, they dare. Because a city does not live only on its past: it lives on the boldness of those who imagine it great, a little more each day.

The city of Varatraza seems to have left behind that old reputation of "zaza maditra" that some readily applied to it. It inspires more than it surprises now. It serves as a reference, a model for neighboring municipalities, demonstrating that with will, imagination and a touch of creative madness, youth can reshape the face of their city. In the end, Fashion Street was perhaps not just a simple fashion show. It was a declaration. Proof that no power cut can plunge into darkness a youth determined to make their city shine. But when the lights go out, dreams always find a way to light the path.
