Madagascar will participate in the African Caucus, which will be held in Banjul, Gambia, next week. Madagascar will take part in the 2026 edition of the African Caucus, scheduled for July 6-8 in Banjul, Gambia. The Malagasy delegation will be led by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr Herinjatovo Aimé Ramiarison. This continental meeting will bring together African finance ministers and central bank governors to discuss major economic challenges facing the continent, in a context marked by tightening budget margins, growing financing needs, and the imperative for more inclusive growth. Themed "Transforming African Economies through Investment, Innovation and Inclusion," this edition aims to serve as a framework for strategic dialogue between African countries, Bretton Woods institutions, and development partners. Discussions will focus notably on strengthening the resilience of African economies, mobilizing more domestic resources, and directing financing toward sectors driving structural transformation.

Madagascar's Participation

For Madagascar, this participation is part of a dynamic of advocacy for financing better adapted to national priorities of the Refoundation for Development. The issues addressed in Banjul align with several initiatives undertaken by the country, including mobilizing public revenues, improving spending quality, financing infrastructure, supporting the private sector, and economic recovery. The 2026 African Caucus will also emphasize deepening capital markets, improving access to financing for small and medium enterprises, and enhancing the value of African natural resources. These topics occupy a central place in debates on the continent's economic future, as many countries seek to reduce their dependence on raw material exports and develop greater local added value.

Program

The proceedings will take place at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center. The program includes an opening ceremony, institutional presentations, thematic panels, deliberation sessions, and adoption of the Banjul Declaration. This document should reflect the common position of African countries on priorities to defend before the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. By participating in this meeting, Madagascar aims to contribute to collective reflections on responses to the continent's economic challenges, while advancing its priorities in economic recovery, sustainable financing, and inclusive development.
