Landricia, an 18-month-old albino child, was killed in Toliara in a ritual crime exactly one month ago. Ten days after the murder, local authorities identified eighteen suspected perpetrators, including shamans, nurses, informants, smugglers, alleged executioners, and people accused of kidnapping the child. On June 12, Narindra Rakotoniaina, prosecutor at the Antananarivo court of first instance, announced that sixteen men involved in the case had been detained at Tsiafahy prison. Two women were placed at Antanimora central prison. All eighteen suspects are currently held in Antananarivo. The prosecutor recalled that five armed individuals with machetes broke into the family's home around 2 a.m. in Ankiembe, Toliara. They forcibly took the child from its parents. The mother managed to hide one of her other children, who also has albinism. On May 28, the child was killed and beheaded. Investigations so far have clarified the roles of certain suspects. They are being prosecuted for kidnapping, murder, organ trafficking, and criminal conspiracy. The alleged perpetrators await trial, which could result in life sentences. "An entire network is operating behind this kidnapping and murder of an albino child. Law enforcement and justice are working tirelessly to dismantle these networks," the prosecutor warned.
