During the night of June 26-27, a cattle theft in Antanetibe, in the rural commune of Analavory, Miarinarivo district, resulted in the recovery of two stolen zebus, the death of a suspected cattle thief during a military intervention, and the arrest of three other people suspected of participating in the network. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when the owners of the two zebus discovered their animals missing, despite being tied in their enclosure. Promptly alerted, gendarmes from the Analavory brigade immediately deployed three officers to track the suspects' trail with local support. Simultaneously, security forces operating in neighboring sectors were informed to tighten the perimeter. Several hours later, around 2:30 p.m., the two individuals driving the stolen zebus reportedly encountered a patrol from the Army's Autonomous Security Detachment (DAS) on surveillance mission in Antoby East. According to initial reports, the soldiers ordered them to stop. The suspects allegedly resisted, leading to an intervention in which one was fatally shot while his companion was apprehended. During questioning, the arrested suspect reportedly provided names of two other people he identified as accomplices: one allegedly harbored them, while the other, described as a "mpimasy" or traditional healer, allegedly provided them mystical protection. A tracking and surveillance operation by investigators led to the arrest of both men. Following standard procedures, the two zebus were returned to their owners. The deceased suspect's body was examined by a doctor before being handed over to the local community for burial. The investigation continues under the Analavory gendarmerie brigade, to determine the precise role of each suspect and identify any ramifications of this alleged cattle theft network.
