The large potholes that once dotted the road surface near Sanfily parking lot are now a thing of the past. During rainy seasons, stagnant water reaching waist-height made life miserable for road users and passengers boarding taxi-brousses, who had no choice but to wade through water to reach their vehicles. Sanfily is indeed Toliara's main parking hub where Sprinter and Crafter mini-cars, as well as taxi-brousse trucks and "karandalana" vehicles operate day and night, serving routes north toward RN9, southeast toward RN10, and east-central toward RN7. It is thus a major axis through which RN7 passes, ending a kilometer further at Toliara's seaside garden. Residents of Andabizy, Motombe, Ankilimarovahatse, Sanfily, and Andakoro neighborhoods pass through Sanfily to reach the city, drop off students, or go to offices. Cyclo-pousses and motor tricycles in particular struggled to navigate this axis due to enormous potholes in the middle of the road and "staircase-like" holes that sometimes overturned vehicles. The Ministry of Public Works has rehabilitated 800 meters of this long-neglected main road. "Rehabilitation work, from PK 925+000 to PK 925+800, is progressing rapidly. The distinctive feature of this new road surface is that it has been rebuilt in concrete," the ministry noted. The presence of drainage outlets on the sides is also evident. The absence of these water drainage structures toward the sea had long been lacking and contributed to worsening flooding in this part of the city. Rehabilitation is currently half-completed. However, one section meeting all concrete road requirements is now open to traffic. It had been closed to all passage, even pedestrians, for a month. Work continues with reinforcement from the roundabout to Sanfily gendarmerie headquarters, covering part of Toliara's finest avenue, "Monja Jaona" avenue.
