The Malagasy Army issued a statement regarding the facts, asserting that it "does not condone those who commit reprehensible acts and violations that damage the image of the Malagasy army. It gives full latitude to those responsible for handling such matters as well as to the justice system to apply current legislation." Investigation and interrogations established that disagreements within the couple, notably linked to excessive jealousy and financial problems in the household, were at the origin of the tragedy.
