A tragic accident on Imerinkasinina road claimed the life of Billy Tiana Rakotomalala. The Subaru was reduced to wreckage after the impact.

Billy Tiana Rakotomalala, 32, a well-known figure in motorsports, photography, and pedigree dog circles, died yesterday at a hospital in Anosy. The day before, on Sunday June 28 around 7 p.m., his Subaru was involved in a terrible accident. He was returning with his partner from the fourth edition of an asphalt hill climb race organized at Imerinkasinina. The tragedy occurred at Ambohiboahangy, Fokontany of Andranonomby, in the commune of Ambohimalaza Miray.

While swerving around a stationary vehicle on his right, he struck an embankment on his left, according to gendarmes. The impact threw the car into the middle of the road. When gendarmes arrived, the vehicle he had tried to avoid had already left the scene.

A witness present recounted: "We saw the whole scene and it was definitely Billy driving. There were no gendarmes or ambulances—we were the first to respond. Because of traffic, he tried to overtake. We don't know why, but the car hit the embankment and rolled three times before stopping. His wife was ejected from the vehicle and fell onto the embankment, right next to us who were still watching the trophy presentation. A man was also with them in the car."

Gendarmes reported extensive damage to the Subaru. The left side was completely destroyed, the front crushed, and the roof severely damaged. Billy Tiana suffered serious head and leg injuries. His 27-year-old partner sustained head injuries, injuries to both arms, and a fractured jaw. Both were rushed to HJRA hospital. Despite treatment, the man did not survive his injuries. The prosecutor was informed and an investigation is underway.
