Madagascar's national youth policy is entering a new phase. Following consultations, the recommendations gathered must now be transformed into a new action framework.

From youth proposals to a new legal framework. The National Youth Policy already exists. Its framework was revised in 2015. This new approach aims to adapt it to the current realities of young people aged 14 to 30. Employment, training, health, civic participation, culture, environment and economic development are among the areas covered.

The proposals will not remain at the resolution stage. "Experts will transform the recommendations into text," explains Dera Ratrimohaja, director of the Coordination of Youth Associative Movement. This work should enable the transition from expectations expressed during consultations to a framework that can be examined by representatives of the Nation.

The process benefits from the support of the United Nations System. Experts are assisting the Ministry of Youth and Sports in updating the document. However, the total amount allocated to this operation has not been disclosed.

At Stake. For young people, the challenge lies mainly in the concrete implementation of the recommendations. Access to employment, training, health and participation in public decisions are concerns regularly raised. The new policy must therefore clarify the directions to address them.

The next step will be the transformation of the updated document into legislative text, before its examination by deputies. The decision of September 12 does not yet directly change the daily lives of young people. It mainly launches the process intended to define the framework for future public actions in their favor.
