Official opening of the 2026 National Identity Day celebration took place last Tuesday at the Carlton Anosy Hotel. Celebrated on September 15 and 16, the 2026 National Identity Day (ID Day) highlighted the modernization of Madagascar's civil status system. Placed under the theme "My identity, my shadow. Never separated!" and institutionalized by decree n°2024-067, this edition benefited from marked support from the International Organization of the Francophonie. OIF's support was materialized through a high-level conference organized on September 15 at the Carlton Anosy Hotel. This event brought together over 150 actors from the identity ecosystem, including administration, national institutions, technical and financial partners, as well as civil society and the private sector. The discussions made it possible to assess progress and prepare the CRVS Decade 2027-2036, addressing key themes such as legal identity as a foundation for social inclusion, identity in the digital age, and digital sovereignty. Furthermore, OIF funding supported the official ceremony, a youth carnival, and a vast awareness campaign at the Mahamasina Sports and Culture Palace, which mobilized over 2,000 young people. It should be noted that the second day, focused on action through the World Bank's DECIM project, was marked by the launch of phase II of the "Izaho Tokana 2.0" operation, an initiative independent of OIF funds.
